The press conference was officially opened by the President Director of Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia, Peter Kelly, with additional speeches by the CEO of Quiksilver Indonesia Paul Hutson, world surfing champion Martin Potter, Pipeline Master Jake Paterson, Bruce Waterfield, and last year's King of the Grom winner Andre Julian.
Earlier in the same day, also at the Harris Hotel, Bali Clean and Green Multi-Stakeholder Network for Solutions Forum was held and officially opened by the Indonesian Minister of Environment, Prof. DR. Ir. Gusti Muh. Hatta and Bali Governor I Made Mangku Pastika. This is the first in a series of events which aimed to bring all stakeholders together to create practical solutions to face the environmental challenges in Bali, starting with waste management.
Bali's Big Eco Weekend is a combined effort by Coca-Cola Indonesia and Quiksilver Indonesia to raise awareness of environmental issues in Bali and to generate support for their efforts to clean beaches, preserve sea turtle populations, clean water supplies and to educate local residents about how to dispose their garbage properly.
Although there will be many serious environmental awareness messages communicated during the event, many fun activities will also accompany the two-days event and begins with the Quiksilver King of Groms surfing competition at 7 am on Saturday morning. A Lifeguard races, movies on the sand, the largest Bali sea turtle release, beach clean ups, Surf Legends vs. Citizens Challenge (showing from Indonesian surfer Dede Suryana, Tipi Jabrik, Andre Julian and Ketut Menda) and then finish with the presentation of awards and rocking out on Sunday night in the sand of Kuta Beach with a live band of Bondan Prakoso and Fade 2 Black.
There will be many opportunities during the two days event to meet the legendary surfer, to chat, and to learn what you can do to help creating Bali clean and healthy, and to get tips on how to improve your surfing along with lots of fun entertainments.
Piles of instant prizes will also be awarded on the second day highlighted by the MR Twin Fin Retro Surf Pack and Jake Paterson Surf Pack
